Guangbo HAO,Haiyang LI,Suzen KEMALCAN,Guimin CHEN,Jingjun YU

Frontiers of Mechanical Engineering 2016, Volume 11, Issue 2,   Pages 129-134 doi: 10.1007/s11465-016-0392-z

Abstract: accurately model compliant mechanism utilizing plate flexures, qualitative planar stress (Young’s modulus) and planar strain (plate modulus) assumptions are not feasible. This paper investigates a quantitative equivalent modulus using nonlinear finite element analysis (FEAIt has been shown that all parameters have influences on the equivalent modulus with different degrees; that the presence of large load-stiffening effect makes the equivalent modulus significantly deviate

A modified zone model for estimating equivalent room thermal capacity

Hua CHEN, Xiaolin WANG

Frontiers in Energy 2013, Volume 7, Issue 3,   Pages 351-357 doi: 10.1007/s11708-013-0254-x

Abstract: The zone model has been widely applied in control analysis of heating, ventilation and air conditioning (HVAC) systems to achieve a high building efficiency. This paper proposed a modified zone model which is much simpler in the HVAC system simulation and has the similar accuracy to the complicated simulation model. The proposed model took into consideration the effect of envelop heat reservoir on the room indoor temperature by introducing the thermal admittance of the inner surfaces of the building enclosure. The thermal admittance for the building enclosure was developed based on the building thermal network analytical theory and transfer function method. The efficacy of the proposed model was demonstrated by comparing it with the complicated model — heat balance method (HTB2 program). The predicted results from the proposed model well agreed with those from the complicated simulation. The proposed model can then make the HVAC system dynamic simulation much faster and more acceptable for control design due to its simplicity and efficiency.

Simulation of viscoelastic behavior of defected rock by using numerical manifold method

Feng REN, Lifeng FAN, Guowei MA

Frontiers of Structural and Civil Engineering 2011, Volume 5, Issue 2,   Pages 199-207 doi: 10.1007/s11709-011-0102-1

Abstract: Numerical simulations of longitudinal wave propagation in a rock bar with microcracks are conducted by using the numerical manifold method which has great advantages in the simulation of discontinuities. Firstly, validation of the numerical manifold method is carried out by simulations of a longitudinal stress wave propagating through intact and cracked rock bars. The behavior of the stress wave traveling in a one-dimensional rock bar with randomly distributed microcracks is subsequently studied. It is revealed that the highly defected rock bar has significant viscoelasticity to the stress wave propagation. Wave attenuation as well as time delay is affected by the length, quantity, specific stiffness of the distributed microcracks as well as the incident stress wave frequency. The storage and loss moduli of the defected rock are also affected by the microcrack properties; however, they are independent of incident stress wave frequency.
